I don’t know about you but I absolutely positively hate sitting for hours on end to get braids. I can’t take holding my head still for six or more hours nor can I deal with a numb butt. Although the end result is typically fabulous, I just can’t deal.
After aimlessly searching YouTube for some hair inspo, I stumbled across Beauty Can Braid’s channel. One of her many awesome videos showed her crocheting Box Braids. Talk about love at first sight <3 . Minutes later I was in my car headed to my local beauty supply to get the supplies needed to try and install my very first crocheted Box Braids. Here’s all I needed:
- Hair conditioner
- Crochet needle
- 5-6 packs of Freetress Large Box Braids for $8.99 each
A few things to keep in mind are that the braid pattern doesn’t have to be sophisticated or perfect. Remember, the cornrows will be covered by the Box Braids. The size of the cornrows determine the fullness of the style. I braided my cornrows bigger for this particularly style since the braids are already large and I didn’t want to topple over from having too much hair on my head. The first time was not perfect and that was okay! Practice makes perfect. I wore this style for at least four weeks. I just slicked down my edges and kept it moving. The style possibilities were endless so I didn’t get tired of them right away.
